  • Sit in front of children and cover your teeth with your lips. What’s missing? Your teeth! Ask children what they know about teeth. Who has teeth? Then read the issue to help them understand why! background knowledge

Art: Paint the Tooth

Materials: toothbrushes, yellow paper, white paint

  • Get children ready to brush with hands-on practice!
  • To prepare, draw a tooth outline on yellow paper for each child. You can also download the template online and photocopy it on yellow paper.
  • Tell children that if we don’t take care of our teeth, they can get stained yellow. But brushing helps keep them healthy and white!
  • Now show a toothbrush. Go over the different parts, like the handle and the bristles. Mimic the motions of brushing. You can even brush their hands so they can feel the soft bristles.
  • Then have children practice brushing by using paintbrushes to paint a yellow “tooth” white. Tell them to cover all of the yellow! fine motor skills, dental health

Materials: mirror, paper, markers

  • With this simple activity, children examine their own mouths and practice using descriptive words.
  • Have children sit in front of a mirror. Encourage them to examine their teeth. First, have them give a big toothy grin. Then have them open wide. Ask them to describe what they see. What shapes are their teeth? Are they pointy? Are they flat? Are they all the same? Are they big or little? Do they notice anything else?
  • Next hand out paper and markers. Tell children to draw what they see in their mouths. Are there only teeth in their mouths, or are there other parts too? observation, vocabulary
